Taylor, a Chicago merchant (fifth from left in the photograph, or seated in the stern?) who acquired a "sturdy four-ton canoe and hired three Indians and a local prospector to serve as his crew." The boat's owner was Tah-ah-nah-lek. The whole journey is described by CESW in his essay "Among the Thlinkits in Alsaska." April 1877.
